Weak & Strong

Big Ideas: Christians have always been divided between those who favor a more cautious, conservative morality and those who favor a more lenient, laid-back morality.

Rather than dividing over who's right and who's wrong, Paul calls us to unite around our deeper call to be together.

Read Romans 14:1-19; Romans 15:1-7 before jumping into the questions.

Q1: What was most interesting or encouraging to you this week?

Q2: What was most challenging or raised questions for you?

Q3: On the spectrum of a more conservative morality to a more lenient morality, where you do tend to fall and why?

Q4: Discuss: If you tend to find yourself on the more conservative side of the moral continuum, then your challenge is not to correct those who are too loose, but to correct yourself for being judgmental...if you tend to find yourself on the more lenient, libertarian side of the moral continuum, then your challenge is not to enlighten those who are too cautious, but to check yourself for being arrogant and condescending.

Q5: What's a strong conviction you hold that you could use help learning to hold a bit more gently and humbly?

Action Step: Instead of imagining yourself on a crusade to fix others, imagine yourself on a crusade to humble yourself and accept others.

A) Have you had a chance to take this step? If so, tell the group about your experience.

B) If not, how can the group help you?
