Sabbath

We have been trained to believe that busy people are important people.

Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 9:18-23 NIV
While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment. When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,

Jesus lives his life purposely, but never quickly.

“Love, joy, and peace are at the heart of all Jesus is trying to plant in the soil of your life. And all three are incompatible with hurry.” -John Mark Comer

“Hurry is not of the devil; hurry is the devil.” Carl Jung

We Sabbath

Sabbath means “to stop”

Sabbath is 24 hours of stopping to do whatever is restful and worshipful for you.

Tish Harrison Warren says, “Rest is not simply a physical need. It is not only our brains and muscles and eyelids that must learn habits of rest. We need holistic rest, physical, psychological, and spiritual.”
