January 5th Recap

Prayer

This Sunday, Joel led us through a corporate prayer of Examen. This prayer practice is a prayerful reflection upon a given period of time, intended to help us discern our experience of the presence or absence of God and His direction for us moving forward. Joel had us reflect on the past year walking through consolation (the presence of God), desolation (the absence of God), and searching for consolation within desolation (defiant joy). This was a great set up for our church-wide 21 Days Of Prayer, which begins on January 6th. If you are using the Rule Of Life prayer guide, the prayer of examine will be apart of your daily routine. Spend some time as a group using the bellow questions to talk about prayer.

Questions:

1. Where did you experience God's presence this past year?
2. Where did you feel God's absence this past year?
3. Is there an invitation I am sensing from Jesus moving into this new year?
4. What's your plan for the 21 Days of Prayer/putting down your phone? How are you going to put your technology in its rightful place and not let it distract you from spending time with God and others? For the groups that meet during the week, how is it going?

Action Step: Take some time this week to practice praying the Examen.
